Osinbajo condemns illegal takeover of National Assembly

Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, has described the unauthorized takeover of the National Assembly complex earlier today as a gross violation of constitutional order, rule of law and all accepted notions of law and order.

A statement by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Laolu Akande, quoted the Acting President as saying that the unlawful act, which was done without the knowledge of the Presidency, is condemnable and completely unacceptable.

Osinbajo reassured Nigerians that all persons within the law enforcement apparatus who participated in this travesty would be identified and subjected to appropriate disciplinary action.

It was reported earlier today that operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), took over the National Assembly complex in anticipation of a possible reopening of the Senate Chamber by lawmakers loyal to President Muhammadu Buhari.

During the takeover, journalists who were at the complex in the early hours as well as National Assembly employees were barred by the DSS operatives from gaining access to the complex.

For such an effrontery, the Acting President ordered that the DSS Director General, Lawal Musa Daura be sacked with immediate effect.

He was directed to hand over to the most senior officer of the State Security Service until further notice.
